With origins in the messenger communities of NYC and SF, the hype around street bikes has exploded during recent years. You now see regular folks riding fixed gear and single-speed bikes in cities all over the world.
However, for this project we wanted to celebrate road racing - a particularly diverse discipline in cycling. There are so many factors in road race cycling that have created great legends in the past and continue to do so. Wood Wood loves bike culture, as we are active cyclists ourselves and have previously founded our own road race team; The Wood Wood cycling team which was launched in Amsterdam in the summer of 2007.
For this project we worked close together with our friends from WEBIKE - a local Copenhagen bike shop, and their in-house bike label VISION.
The result is a full-carbon road race bike - a modified version of VISION’s lightweight model Nano 890.
The bike will be manufactured in a limited run of 15 numbered frames in three sizes. Three of these bikes will be completed with the lightest accessible hardware and assembled by mechanics from WEBIKE. The pricepoint for these will be remarkable higher than the remaining 12 bikes.
The mechanics aimed for a total weight around 4.7 kg. This will make it one of the lightest bikes on the market and well under UCI´s minimum of 6.7 kg. You cannot take part in the Tour de France with this bike as it’s simply too light.
This is just an indication of the passion and effort that everyone involved in the project have contributed with.
We have tried to achieve a different and more raw look than usually seen on road bike frames. The graphics and color scheme is a continuation from the Wood Wood team uniforms, with elements from our autumn collection. The mix of streety looks and classic cycling references adds a new dimension to the frame.
