The official opening of the MYKITA shop in Zurich during March 2010 constitutes a landmark occasion. As well as being the fifth store of its kind after Berlin, Vienna, Paris and Monterrey (Mexico), the new outlet also happens to be the very first mono-brand store in the Swiss eyewear sector.
The shop enjoys a prime location at the corner of Langstrasse/Röntgenstrasse and on the periphery of a hip downtown neighbourhood that is home to an array of boutiques and small, individual retailers. The largely white interior is flooded with sunlight during the day thanks to three large front windows facing south, and at night the shop in turn lights up the street. The open plan design translates into maximum exposure of both the sales area and the small workshop at the back. As with other MYKITA shops, the dominant design element is the backlit presentation wall, which in this case mirrors the curved façade of its home (a handsome 1930s building) and can accommodate around 400 pairs of glasses. A central sales counter plus mobile flight attendant trolleys provide ample sales and presentation space.
The shop carries the complete MYKITA range of corrective spectacles and sunglasses plus other high-quality eyewear brands and contact lenses. Customers can rely on constructive advice from our expert sales staff and can also have their vision tested by an optometrist. Furthermore, the shop’s official lens supplier for prescription spectacles is Zeiss, a global leader in the optical and
eye care business.
The philosophy behind MYKITA´s collections centers on a constant search for intelligent technical solutions and the creative use of modern materials, backed up by a wealth of experience in eyewear design. All frames are completely handmade at MYKITA’s own workshop in the heart of Berlin. From there they are distributed throughout the world to selected opticians, fashion shops and department stores.
