MYKITA’s new shop in Tokyo is now open. The sixth MYKITA outlet has a prime location on a sidestreet off Omotesando, which is often referred to as the ”Champs-Élysées of Tokyo”.
A showcase of international modern architecture, the Omotesando boulevard is home to countless flagship stores representing the big international fashion houses as well as smaller boutiques and a string of sophisticated cafés and restaurants.
The MKITA shop is located in the basement of a narrow, modern two-storey building. It is flooded with sunlight during the day thanks to the large front window, while the bright, white-based colour scheme means the interior is clearly visible at night as well.
As with other MYKITA shops, the dominant structural and design element is the specially created and patented presentation wall, comprising an assembly of perforated steel angle beads that are normally used to support heavy-duty shelving. The beads have a white high-gloss finish and together form a light-permeable L-shaped wall. Backlighting turns it into an integral design element that is common to all MYKITA shops. The wall stretches from the display window at the front through to the back of the sales area, where it divides the room, and accommodates a total of 270 frames. White, unostentatious furniture plus mobile flight attendant trolleys provide ample sales and presentation space. Large mirrors increase the room’s apparent size and in addition enable customers to view themselves from any angle.
The shop carries the complete MYKITA range of sunglasses and prescription spectacles as well as MYKITA’s limited editions and collections stemming from collaborations with international fashion designers. The range is complemented by natural cosmetics products from Sabine Kaufmann.
MYKITA’s in-house workshop in Berlin has been supplying hand-assembled spectacles for the high-end segment since 2003. A clear design signature coupled with excellent product quality and a huge potential for innovation have helped make MYKITA a major name on the international eyewear market.
